Friction Stir WeldingNiagara Thermal Products’ friction stir welding capabilities can be applied to a variety of product needs. Our FSW cold plates offer fast turnaround with integrated fin plates joined to cold plate flow bases without the need for filler metals. The process is capable of joining various metals; however Niagara Thermal’s primary focus remains on its application to aluminum and copper products. Using this patented, technologically advanced process, we can provide a higher strength component than one where filler metal is required. This technology also allows Niagara Thermal to utilize unique fin geometries and very high density fin when required. Our experienced engineering staff can provide more insight on whether the use of this process is applicable to your products.

Features

  • Butt joints and T joints must be developed with NTP engineers to insure proper tooling is available.
  • Typically full base metal support in joint areas, however NTP has developed the process which can joints which may not be fully supported in the Z direction
  • Continuous joints are preferred
  • Friction Stir Spot Welding can be applied for added strength or functionality
